
The ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan reached a new level on 8 May 2025. Both countries have accused each other of air strikes, drone attacks and cross-border shelling, which have resulted in many civilian casualties and thousands of people fleeing their homes in search of safety.

🇮🇳 India’s actions:
Operation Sindh: The Indian Air Force strikes 9 targets in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sialkot, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan, which were identified as terrorist camps.
Use of S-400 system: India uses the Russian-made S-400 missile defense system to counter Pakistani drone and missile attacks.
Attack on Lahore: Indian forces target air defense systems in Lahore.
🇵🇰 Pakistan’s response:
Jammu attack: Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on Jammu airport and university, which were repelled by Indian S-400 systems.
Drone countermeasures: Pakistan claims to have shot down 25 Indian drones, some of which were carrying Israeli-made HARP loitering munitions.
Nuclear threat: Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said the ongoing tensions with India pose a “clear and present” threat of nuclear war.

⚠️ Civilian impact:
Casualties: Pakistan claims 31 civilians were killed in the Indian attack, while India says 16 of its civilians were killed in Pakistani shelling.
Power outages and panic: Power outages and panic spread across Jammu, Gurdaspur in Punjab, and parts of Rajasthan.
International Concerns: Several countries, including the United States, the European Union, China, and Turkey, have called on both sides to show restraint.
